When syncing your team or company data, you may encounter specific API errors. Below is a guide to help you understand and resolve these errors (this is not a comprehensive list).
How to Access Sync Errors
To view the errors:
- When in the Overview Section in Payroll
- Click View for Team Sync or Company Sync errors under Payroll Notifications
- Look for the error on the guide below for help resolving
Team Sync Errors
Date of Birth is Not a Valid Date
- What it Means: An invalid date of birth was entered for an employee.
- How to Resolve: Update the employee’s date of birth in GoCo to a valid format.
SSNs Cannot Begin with Three Zeros
- What it Means: The Social Security Number entered is not valid.
- How to Resolve: Correct the employee’s SSN in GoCo.
This SSN is Already in Use With Another Person at This Company
- What it Means: The SSN is associated with another employee profile.
- How to Resolve: Contact GoCo Support for assistance.
Employee Hiring is Not Finished
- What it Means: An employee’s hiring process in GoCo is incomplete.
- How to Resolve: Complete the hiring process in GoCo.
Not in a Valid Payroll Schedule
- What it Means: The employee is not assigned to a valid payroll schedule.
- How to Resolve: No action needed. These errors can be ignored.
Employee Sync Failed
- What it Means: The employee profile did not sync successfully.
- How to Resolve:
- Go to the employee’s profile.
- Check the Activity Report for details under "Gusto Sync Error."
- Correct any identified issues.

EIN Must Be 9 Digits
- What it Means: The entered Employer Identification Number (EIN) is invalid.
- How to Resolve:
- This typically occurs if an employee is switching from W-2 to Business Contractor or vice versa.
- Terminate the employee profile and rehire them correctly as a Business Contractor.
Company Sync Errors
Sync Locations: Phone Number Must Be 10 Digits
- What it Means: The phone number associated with your company is invalid.
- How to Resolve:
- Go to Company Card in GoCo and update the phone number to a valid 10-digit format.
Sync Locations: Cannot Assign as Address is Not Verified
- What it Means: The company address could not be verified.
- How to Resolve:
- Go to Company > Locations in GoCo.
- Retype the address and verify it using the geofencing map.
- If all addresses look correct and you have a remote work location, you'll likely need to run a custom report to identify which employees have incomplete or invalid home addresses.
Sync Employees to Payroll Schedules: One or More Employees Were Not Found
- What it Means: One or more employees are missing from the payroll schedule.
- How to Resolve:
- No immediate action is required.
- Wait 20–30 minutes and re-sync the company. The error should clear on its own.
Sync Employees to Time Off Policies: Employees Ineligible for Time Off Policy
- What it Means: Certain employees are not eligible for the assigned time-off policy.
- How to Resolve:
- No immediate action is required.
- Wait 20–30 minutes and re-sync the company. The error should clear on its own.
