Understanding State-Specific Tax Fields
Overview
When managing employee profiles using Embedded payroll with Gusto, you may come across several special tax fields in the Employment Info section. These fields are state-specific and may vary based on the employee's work location. If you're in a state that doesn't use special tax fields like SOC codes, you will not have the option to add them to your employee's profile information. Understanding these fields will help ensure accurate data entry and compliance with state regulations.
Special Tax Fields by State
GoCo uses the Bureau of Statistics site to identify codes or utilizes this lookup tool.
SOC Code:
Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) is a federal coding system that helps government agencies and private businesses compare occupational data.
While NAICS codes focus on identifying the primary activity of your business, SOC codes specifically pinpoint the primary duties of the workers employed within your organization.
