What is Geo-Fencing?

Wondering what GoCo's Time feature, Geo-Fencing, is & how it works? Keep reading to find out more!

You asked for it, we heard you! Geo-Fencing is here! Full Access Admins can now track where their employees are when they are clocking in & out. They will also have the ability to configure how far employees can clock into a desired location, block or receive warnings when employees are outside of their set distance, and decide what type of device (PC or mobile device) your employees are able to clock in/out from.  Whether you're clocking into a restaurant or a construction site or even a client's home, GoCo has you covered! 🎉

Below are some answers to FAQs you might have:

  • Is there an additional charge to use Geo-Fencing?
    • Nope! If you are currently using GoCo's Time feature, Geo-Fencing is free of charge. However, if you do not have Time enabled you will be prompted to upgrade your plan. 
  • What happens if I have multiple addresses to set up?
    • If you have multiple Work Groups with different locations, no worries! As long as your employees are within range of 1 of those addresses, they should be able to clock in successfully. 
  • Does Geo-Fencing apply to meal breaks? 
    • No, Geo-Fencing rules do not apply to employees clocking in/out for meal breaks.
  • Does Geo-Fencing apply to the Time Kiosk?
    • No, Geo-Fencing rules do not apply to employees clocking in/out using the Time Kiosk. If you wish to utilize Geo-Fencing instead of the Kiosk, ensure that you disable the Kiosk first.
  • Does Geo-Fencing apply to Time Sheets?
    • No, Geo-Fencing rules do not apply to Time Sheet entries. In other words, you can add a timesheet entry regardless of your location. To avoid this, update your policy settings to disable the option to allow timesheet entries & only allow clocking in/out. 
  • What happens if a Time Sheet is modified by a Full Access Admin or an Employee?
    • Geo-Location will not be affected. 
  • Can Geo-Fencing be overridden?
    • Only Time Sheet approvers & Full Access Admins will have the ability to override Geo-Fencing Rules.
  • What happens if an employee's GPS signal is bad or they do not give GoCo location access on their device? 
    • If GoCo is not able to detect a location, the employee will receive a warning and not be able to clock in. If they have not allowed access to their device, they will be prompted to update this before being able to clock in.
