ACA: Future Coverage

On the Future Coverage page, you will see a list of your team’s active measurement periods.  These measurement periods will determine if the employee is full-time (working over 130 hours per month).

Current Status
Current status will show you the employee’s current full-time status if it’s known.  The possible statuses are:

  • Full-Time

If an employee was known to be full-time based on his past measurement period, or is a new-hire that was hired as a full-time employee.

  • Not Full-Time

The employee was not a full-time employee based on his past measurement period.

  • New Hire (Measuring Hours…)

The employee is a recent new-hire hired as a part-time/hourly worker, and their current full-time employment status is unknown.

Measurement Period

A measurement period is used to measure the employee’s hours worked, and determine if they are a full-time employee (working over 130hrs avg per month for the entire measurement period).

GoCo will show you the employee’s current measurement period so you can see how many hours they are working, and what their expected full-time status will be.  If an employee is determined to be full-time at the end of the measurement, you’ll be asked to offer that employee health coverage.

There are 2 types of measurement periods:

  • Standard Measurement Period

This measurement period applies to all ongoing employees, and lasts 12 months, and starts 2 months before the health plan renewal date.

For example, if your health plan renewal is on Jan 1, 2018, the standard measurement period will start on Nov 1, 2017, and end on Oct 31, 2018.

  • Initial Measurement Period

This measurement period applies to new-hires and starts on the 1st of the month after their hire date, and lasts 12 months.

For example, if an employee was hired on Mar 5, 2017, their initial measurement period will start on Apr 1, 2017, and end on Mar 30, 2018.

Future Status
The future status will show you the employee’s upcoming full-time status if it's known.  GoCo will use the hourly average for the employee’s active measurement period to estimate the employee’s upcoming full-time status.

The possible future statuses are:

Future Status

When does this status show?

  • Full-Time

The hourly average for the current measurement period is 130 or more hours per month.

  • Not Full-Time

The hourly average for the current measurement period is less than 130 hours per month.

  • New Hire (Measuring Hours…)

The employee is a recent new-hire hired as a part-time/hourly worker, and their future full-time employment status is unknown.  GoCo will wait for at least 1 month of hourly data before determining the employee's future full-time status.
