How to Set Up the Compensation App in GoCo

The Compensation App is designed to simplify how employment and compensation change requests are submitted, reviewed, and managed. Whether you're a manager or an admin, this tool helps streamline approvals and reduce manual work.

🌟 What is the Goal of this Feature?

The Compensation App provides a user-friendly and efficient solution for:

  • Submitting and reviewing employment and compensation change requests
  • Managing request permissions across your organization
  • Notifying the right people at the right time

It’s built to reduce time and effort for both managers and admins while ensuring control and accuracy.

🛠 Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Step 1: Add the Compensation App

  • Navigate to the GoCo Marketplace from the left navigation menu.

  • Add the Compensation App to your account by clicking "Set Up" to begin the process
    If you do not have Compensation as a part of your plan. Please connect with your Client Success Manager. 

Step 2: Employment and Compensation Requests


In this step, you’ll configure which fields managers can take action on by setting permissions. The fields will broken down by two categories, Employement & Compensation and Custom Fields.Screenshot 2025-06-11 at 1.25.04 PM

Permission Levels:

  • Can View (Default):
    Managers can view compensation and employment data for direct and indirect reports they already have access to.

  • Can Request:
    Managers can submit requests for changes to fields they have access to. This is required if you want managers to initiate change requests.

  • Can Edit:
    Managers can make direct changes from the employee profile or the setup wizard, in addition to submitting requests through the Compensation App.

Tip: Review each field and adjust permissions based on your company’s workflow and who should be allowed to take action.

Step 3: Employment & Compensation Approvers

Set up who can approve or deny change requests.

  • By default, only Full Access Admins (FAAs) can review, approve, or deny requests.
  • You can keep this default or expand access depending on your internal approval structure.

Step 4: Notifications


Customize who receives email alerts when change requests are submitted.

  • You can choose which FAAs should receive notifications.
  • Only admins can receive these alerts — managers submitting requests will not receive confirmation emails from this screen.

Step 5: Review & Finish

The final step gives you a summary of your setup:

  • Review each configuration
  • Go back and edit if needed
  • When everything looks good, click Finish.

You’re all set! The Compensation App is now ready to be used for managing employment and compensation requests more efficiently.

Important: To make changes to the fields set in the future, admins will need to update the individual fields under Employment & Compensation and Custom Fields permissions from the Company Permissions app.
