Planning for Holiday Payroll Processing

How Holidays Affect Payroll Processing

When a holiday falls on a day that is typically used for payroll processing, it may delay the payroll run. In such cases, payroll will typically be processed on the next available business day. Please keep in mind that this could also affect the delivery of paychecks and direct deposits. Check out our Preparing for an Upcoming Holiday help article.

What You Can Do to Prepare

  • Submit payroll early: If a holiday is approaching, be sure to submit payroll ahead of time to avoid delays.

  • Plan for potential delays: Be mindful of service interruptions and payroll delays, especially during major holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve, which have historically seen delays.

  • Check for updates: We recommend checking your service provider’s calendar and confirming any service interruptions ahead of time.

Additional Notes

  • Support Availability: On company holidays and Federal Reserve holidays, GoCo’s support team may be unavailable or have limited hours. Please plan your inquiries in advance, especially around holiday periods.

  • Holiday Pay: If your employees are eligible for holiday pay, make sure to account for that in your payroll submissions to avoid errors.

By keeping these key dates in mind, you can avoid any unexpected service interruptions and ensure your payroll runs smoothly throughout the year. If you have any questions, please reach out to GoCo Support 💚
